We’ve been providing coral to our customers for a long time, Over time i have found my passion particularly for Mushroom corals, I found myself searching the web for hours feeling frustrated at the limited selection, most retailers will carry mushrooms but in short supply, Thus The Mushroom Man was born! We have some of the most sought after top end Mushrooms some low end beginner Mushrooms and everything in between regardless of their grade or rarity I strive to bring you some of the highest quality aquacultured mushrooms available, Theres something for everyone with Mushroom Corals!
The Mushroom coral (Corallimorpharia) is a soft coral even though recent studies show they closely resemble and may be related to stony corals. They are great for beginners and experienced reef keepers! sometimes people will refer to them as umbrella corals, elephant ears, false coral, naked corals or disc anemones. They come in hundreds if not thousands of different varieties, I’ve been doing this for years and still to this day come across colors and patterns I’ve never seen and of course have to get! corallimorphs are found throughout almost all the world’s oceans in the islands of the Indo-Pacific including Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, in Australias Great Barrier Reef and in the Caribbean They’re are several different species and genus of Mushrooms but today we will focus on the 3 most commonly kept in home aquariums
Discosoma - Discosomas are a great place to start for beginners, Great for Nano or larger aquariums alike they can handle dirtier conditions and come in a variety of colors and patterns from polka dots to swirls and stripes! Their are stunning examples of Discosoma Mushrooms that are highly sought after. Jawbreaker Mushrooms bring some of the brightest and beautiful patterns the hobby has to provide!
Rhodactis - These are also a very good coral for beginner to moderate hobbyists, the Rhodactis Mushroom comes in endless colors and patterns, These corallimorphs are prone to “Bouncing” and when they do have brought some record breaking prices as high as $10,000 Dollars and are highly sought after, There are several different varieties of rhodactis they often have a fuzzy appearance, but there are specifically hairy rhodactis mushrooms as well that almost resemble carpet anemones and toadstool leathers, ive even had a pair of clownfish host them!
Ricordea - These Mushrooms we’ll split into two separate categories “Ricordea Florida” and “Ricordea Yuma”
Ricordea Florida - these bubbly wonders come from you guessed it the Caribbean off the coast of Florida and found in the Gulf of Mexico they come in a variety of colors! With Ricordeas you can get that bounce look without the large price tag of bouncing Rhodactis mushrooms. There are some rare varieties of Florida Ricordea that have two to three toned mix colored patterns, These are a moderate care level mushroom they can be a little more sensitive to light and water quality!
Ricordea Yuma - Ricordea Yuma come from Indo Pacific ocean regions. These Mushrooms come in incredibly vibrant and various color patterns, These are also the hardest mushrooms to keep in my opinion. And will require an experienced hobbyist. They need clean and stable water conditions and need to be in a low light area of the aquarium either on the sand bed on the base of rocks, under shelves and over hangs, in caves etc.
Wrap up - Whether you purchase a mushroom or other coral from us or currently have one you acquired elsewhere we want to provide you with the best way to take care of these beautiful animals! I recommend starting all different varieties in low light at first then moving them up as you wish, better to start lower in the aquarium then high!
